WOYWW and best laid plans!!!

Hello - after a few traumatic days since last Wednesday. I'll explain after showing my desk as that's what you really popped by for.
I have not done any crafting since last Wednesday - so here is my desk as I left it last Wednesday - think I'd tidied up a bit after my photo for last week's WOYWW.

By

Mr UPS had been with my Stampin Up order. One of the items in my order was the Water Colour Wishes Kit - I've yet to explore it though.

I will visit everyone who visits my desks and those that end in same number as me. If you don't know what WOYWW is then click on the button on side of my blog and join in.

So why no crafting and blog title ???? Here is the short version.
Last Thursday I rang mum making final arrangements for her visit to me to celebrate my Auntie's 90th birthday and my great nephew's Christening.
Three quarters of an hour later she rang me - with help from paramedics.
She had her case open , on the floor emptying it from her holiday in Guernsey - (she had just returned) she tripped over it!!!! Long story short she broke three ribs, fractured her pelvis, internal bleeding, cut above eye, laceration to elbow.
I went down ( she lives in Somerset I am in west Mids) - an awful journey of five hours due to holiday traffic. As I went into hospital doctor was ringing me - you can imagine the panic. I saw mum first and then went to speak to the doctor.
They said the difficulty was that because of the pain she was on a lot of pain killers and this made her sleep - so she was not breathing properly and waste gasses going into her blood. They were also afraid of ribs puncturing the lung. Mum also has heart problems so fear of heart failure. They said it would be futile at that stage to try to resuscitate. Told me to be prepared for her not to pull through. I was devastated.
Anyway move on to Monday - although still in lots of pain mum is out of bed and sending texts ( she is 86 by the way ) - obviously a long way to go and not completely out of danger but she is a lot lot better. My sister who lives by her has returned home from her holiday so I felt able to come home so could sort out some things and celebrate yesterday with my Aunt and also attend the Christening on Sunday. My sister is due to go away again soon so I will return to be with mum with help from my other sister and brother.
If you got this far thanks for reading. Back soon - hopefully.

  5. Hi Anne, oh my goodness, you must have been so worried! What a terrible thing to be told. So glad she is pulling through, and starting to recover. Older people can be remarkably resilient, and she is clearly not only strong willed, but has a strong constitution as well. Sending both of you lots of hugs and good wishes, Have a (better) week, Hugs, Shaz #14 xxx

  7. Oh Anne, what a terrible thing to happen.....your poor mum (and you!). It really does bring it home how fragile older people are...though your mum does sound as if she's made of sterner stuff. I sincerely hope her recovery progresses well. You take care too, sending hugs,

  9. Pleased to hear your mum seems to be on the mend. It's so scary how one minute you are fine and a simple mistake and you're in hospital. Your mum is obviously made of tuff stuff so lets hope she gets better soon. Thanks for the visit to mine and happy woyww, Angela x 24 xXx

  11. Hi Anne. Your mom sounds like a resilient woman. So glad she proved the doctor wrong and is doing good. I also hope she continues to improve and keep sending out those text messages! I certainly hope I'm sending text messages out at age 86!

You definitely had a good excuse for no crafting going on. As for me I think I've just gotten in a rut and need to force myself out of it. My knee is healing very well and I am still going to physical therapy twice a week.

Thanks for stopping by and visiting me and leaving a comment. I'm hoping to join in woyww next week.

    Hugs

  13. Sending your mum positive healing thoughts. I hope she is soon home. A shame she couldn't get to the birthday celebrations and christening, but I'm sure she'll love seeing photos.

Your desk looks ready for some projects. Enjoy your new stash.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  16. Oh Anne, how simply awful... It sounds as if she's one feisty lady though. What a scary time for you all. I am not surprised you haven't had a lot of time for creative activities or for visiting my blog after that lot!!! Thank you for your visit and your good wishes for my chemo - #5 tomorrow. I should be starting to upload posts about the Big Reveal tomorrow or Sat. depending on how I'm feeling post-chemo.

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  17. Just spotted your second comment on my cancer diary page, Anne - thank you so much, and for your good wishes for my chemo tomorrow. I am sorry to hear you are suffering so much with the FM - I think you are worse off than me, really, because I don't really have much pain to speak of with the M.E. and absolutely none with the cancer! In fact I was completely symptom free and you could have knocked me down with a feather when they told me I'd got it. The chemo is pretty awful but the effects no longer last the full 3 weeks now they are dealing with it, and it's only temporary anyway. Hang in there - we have to stick together and encourage one another through our difficulties, don't we! I can see you understand fully about the "good night's sleep" (not) and I can sympathise because I don't sleep well either!

  18. Oh Anne! How awful! I'm writing this on Friday so I have already read your Friday post and know that you made it for auntie's birthday. I assume you are now back at mum's now your sister is away again. I'll be thinking of you. Wishing your mother all the best.
Thanks for visiting me earlier this week. Yes, I learnt soon after posting that they were goats in the picture and not sheep! Well, I am a city girl at heart and never too old to learn.
Sorry I'm so late in commenting, but we have been away for a few days.
Have a good week (as far as possible),
