WOYWW 289 (and more - sorry Julia )

Thank you for all the super comments last week.
Last Thursday and Friday were spent finishing off my Craft Fair makes and some preparation for Christmas for us! The Craft Fair was tonight (Tuesday) I actually did reasonably well - it was manic at first. Some things sold really well and could have sold more but other things not so well. I don't think it is really worth the effort , time and money spent. However it was in aid of charity but I don't think I want to do another. My three friends who were also asked to take part did very badly and one of them was quite upset and I felt really bad.
I didn't get a photo of the stall as I was besieged to begin with and hadn't even finished arranging it!!!

I took photograph of my work space on table and rest of dining room this morning. It was / still is a tip!!! Have a lot to do now to get ready for Christmas and sort of resent time I spent on Craft Fair preparations.

Had a great weekend though as I went away to Winchester and then Oxford on Sunday with three girlfriends. We had a lot of fun and lots of laughter - was very good to relax.
I think I need to slow down a bit now - I've had two falls this week. First I forgot I was on top step of my steps and ended up falling off backwards. Then this afternoon I tripped over my case and sprawled headlong and onto my bad knee. I'm ok but a few bruises and think I wrenched my back a bit :-(

Anyway a few photos of my messy space!!!!

Where I wor - well have dumped stuff - I've been working all over the place. Dreading sorting out that lot at the back!

As I said - I've been everywhere - won't show you kitchen table and lounge :-)

Above a few makes close up ( these have gone from the table now.)

Below three cards I made for friends.

Card for my Son and his Wife

Card for Mum - the ribbon on closed one does lie straight - I didn't check before I took photo.

A Christmas Banner - cased from the very talented Julie Kettlewell. ( photo not brilliant)

Well as they say 'That's all folks' - I am shattered and need to sleep. I will link to WOYWW tomorrow - if you don't know what on earth I'm talking about click on button on side of my blog and JOIN IN!!!
Will visit all who visit me and those ending with same number as me. See you soon.

  2. Anne, I am so sorry you have tumbled twice recently! Hope you heal quickly!! I'm glad the sale went well for you, but can understand your decision to avoid selling at another event. Wishing you more fun gatherings like you had with your friends, and am impressed with all you have made. Now I am off to continue making and wrapping :)xx

  4. I'm glad you sold well at the fair. I never did that well in all the fairs that I've sold at and it's always a disappointment of all the money I spent on supplies and all the time and effort to do the show. You need to be more careful! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  8. Hi Anne - sorry about the falls (do take care of yourself) and the disappointing fair. I don't know what the answer is - you do want to get your stuff out there, but it's gutting if it doesn't sell. There is often no rhyme or reason, as another time you would have done really well. As to the mess, I keep telling myself it's inevitable from now to the new year. Take heart and enjoy your crafting - the cards look great, especially Mum's one, and I know they will be greatly appreciated and treasured. Hugs, Chris # 8

  9. Oh dear. I hope you're not too achy now agter your mishaps. I've always pondered doing Christmas fairs etc but thought it might be too much stress for me. I think I'll stick to making for fun. Merry Christmas from Horace @ no. 32

  10. I'm glad you did sell some stuff. But I'm sorry you're so disappointed about the time spent/wasted. It's not worth it. People don't appreciate home made things and won't spend the money on them.
Boy you have to pluck up a bit of courage to sort that lot out! And preferibly before Christmas. I don't envy you....
But the cards you made are beautiful! Especially your mum's. She will be very pleased.
    Have a good week,

  14. I understand about the craft fair thing. Sadly, it just doesn't pay to pour your precious time into making fabulous things, because people don't want to pay for your art...they just want bargains. I make things that take me about five minutes, like my earrings, and quick cards, etc. I need to know that as a crafter, I can make about 25 dollars an hour on what I'm making for a craft fair. So that means, I can't sell my knitting, or my cross-stitch, or anything fancy that I sew. *big sigh* Happy WOYWW! Sandy Leigh #41

  15. Hi Anne, Thanks for visiting me and Betsy this week and for the lovely comment.
Your cards are so beautiful, love the one you made for your Mum.

I quit doing craft fairs, years ago, for the same reasons as many. Everybody wants handmade, but want's it for nothing. It is so disappointing with the money and time lost, but I am glad you did reasonably well, and you did help the charity and THAT is what counts!

Your descriptions of your falls made my bad knee throb....ouch! Yes, that it a good sign that we need to slow down.....LOL

Wishing you a peaceful, joyous Christmas

  18. Hi Anne,
Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the craft fair. It's always hit and miss with what sells. Here it seems that every other person has knitted scarves (I didn't sell one) but people do come back for my spa cloths. I had 44 knitted up and almost sold out of them. Necklaces that I had two years ago I marketed a different way and sold maybe five or six.

I have to go now but will come back and comment some more.

    Happy woYWW

  19. Sorry to hear about your falls, Anne, and the disappointing fair result. I'm not doing fairs any more - the last one was a total disaster and I simply haven't got the energy to invest all that work for so little result... It looks as if your crafty activities have taken over the whole house!!!

    Happy WOYWW,

  20. Hi Anne,
I'm back to finish my comment! I hope you are recouperating from your falls. Could it be that we are related? Last Thursday I fell at work and was sent home. I fell on my left side and bruised my knee, elbow and hand. On top of it, my left knee needs a total knee replacement! Yikes.

The first craft fairs are always hard - you don't know what to expect, how to set up, how long it will take, etc. I look at it not necessarily as a business but more as a hobby. I enjoy knitting and making the crafts that I sell. I've given everyone I know scarves and spa cloths, etc. When I retire I plan to kick it up a notch and be more active in my etsy shop and if I have a good stock built up maybe a major craft fair in the area. All of that is years away though.

    Hugs,
    Kay

  24. Oh Anne, do be careful or you'll do yourself some real damage.
It is frustrating when you go to a lot of trouble preparing for a craft event and people don't buy or make disparaging remarks about your products. But I love your stuff, your pictures are beautiful, especially the one for your Mum.
Bless you and have a very special Christmas
