How beautiful

the lovely flowers that a dear friend has sent me to cheer me up - they are gorgeous.
My photo doesn't do them justice!! Thank
you Judy !!!

I also received this beautiful poinsettia from my daughter in law. It is much more impressive in real life. It made me cry when I saw it as my friend always bought me one in December - so sweet that my D.I.L. got me one.
I have started putting a few decorations out. Have to admit that at the moment I am struggling a little and feel tired and down. I know my friend would not want me to feel this way but I can't seem to shake it off.

I also put the Advent Star up. It was my friend who introduced me to this many years ago. She always had one and she bought me one and I have always hung it at the start of Advent. It was very sad this year, though brought back many happy memories of Christmas past - spent together.

So I am trying to get into the Spirit of Christmas. x

  1. Hi Anne,

It is that time of season - those bitter sweet memories that we have of family and friends passed. My mom passed on December 31 - such a tough day.

The outing to mail letters to Santa and have hot dogs and strawberry milkshakes sounds wonderful though!!

    Thanks for stopping by.

    Hugs,
    Kay

  2. Dear Anne... I'm sorry you're having a rough time missing your friend. Just remember that she would want you to be happy and enjoy the holidays with your family. That would be a good memorial to her, to live well. Keep decorating and I love your flowers! In fact, I got all interested in your Scandinavian electric candelabra and just got one off eBay!!

  3. This kind of transition is difficult, our sorrow is fueled by the dearness of the one we miss. A few weeks ago a friend from CA suddenly died of a heart attack. She was very creative and lavished her friends with lovely things she made. This Christmas I unpacked the beautiful glass ornament she had crocheted a beaded jacket for. I unpacked three Christmas napkins she had made by hand-stitching the hems. On the back of one of my living room chairs I have a blanket made for me by the lovely ladies I met with on Friday afternoons. Each of them crocheted or knit or made a counted cross stitch square, then one of them crocheted the squares together. The yarn that held the blanket together was donated by my creative friend. I remembered it well because she started making a sweater for herself with it, but decided she did not like the way it looked on her so she frogged all her stitches :) Somewhere in one of my Bibles, I think, I also have a delicate bookmark she crocheted. Each item I have that was a part of her life causes me to both celebrate her life, and mourn that I can no longer enjoy her presence in my life on earth.

I care about what you are experiencing now, Anne. I too appreciate your Advent Star and your poinsettia plant as they prompt you to celebrate your friend's life while you mourn her absence from you.

    Love with hugs from,
    Gracie

star and poinsettia as they help you in the process of celebrating your friend's life while mourning her absence with you now

  4. I'm so sorry that you have lost a dear, dear friend, Anne. We are often blessed with the kind of friend that their loss is even more traumatic than losing a family member. It sounds like you are working through your grief and trying to lift your spirits the way she would want you to do. Big hugs, Darnell

  5. My dear Anne , I'm so sorry about your friend. It's so hard when someone we love so much passes, but remember that " those wo we love never die... They simply leave before us. " they will stay in your heart forever.
